Session fee and more

Fees

I utilize a standard rate of $3.20 per minute, applicable to sessions lasting 60, 75, and 90 minutes. At Melissa Satterberg Psychotherapy, I do not accept insurance. Opting for private pay grants the advantage of not being confined to the limitations imposed by insurance companies, such as treatment duration or specific diagnostic criteria. I do offer a lower rate for folks that are experiencing financial strain. Please inquire during our consultation.

To ensure convenience, I accept all major credit cards, cash, and payments from FSA/HSA accounts, all of which are due at the time of service. If desired, I can furnish you with a list of referral sources offering low-fee options upon request.

Here's a breakdown of the fee structure:

  1. You are responsible for covering the session fees using a credit card, HSA/FSA card, or cash.

  2. Upon your request, I can provide a monthly emailed "Superbill" receipt that details your treatment, which you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Please note that insurance billing necessitates a mental health diagnosis, and it's important to recognize that not all individuals meet the criteria for reimbursement. Reimbursement rates are contingent upon your specific insurance plan. I do not contact your insurance provider directly.

  3. As a courtesy, I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. Furthermore, I have a limited number of sliding scale (reduced fee) session slots available, which can be discussed during the consultation call.

  4. If, following the consultation, you decide to proceed with therapy and intend to seek reimbursement through monthly "Superbill" submissions to your insurance, I recommend contacting your insurance provider with the following CPT codes to confirm their reimbursement eligibility: 90791, 90837, 90853. Additionally, please inquire about the acceptance of Telehealth services.

    My Medicare Provider Status

Please be aware that I am an Opted-Out provider. This means I am not contracted with Medicare. Medicare will not reimburse you for the cost of my services. If you are a Medicare beneficiary, we will need to enter into a private contract for therapy services in order for me to treat you.

Session Length

Through my experience, I have discovered that sessions lasting between 70 and 75 minutes offer an enhanced capacity to address clinical concerns compared to the conventional 50-minute sessions. I collaborate with each individual to identify the optimal session length that suits their needs and preferences.

For the initial session, I allocate 90 minutes to gather comprehensive information about your therapeutic goals, assess treatment compatibility, and determine the appropriate duration. During this session, we will also discuss and explore session lengths ranging from 60 to 75 minutes for future sessions.

Treatment type

I am meeting Portland metro area residents in-person or virtually. I use an electronic health program to support virtual sessions with my California clients.
